Coffee Break with Dan Hyman from Active 360
We recently grabber a brew with Dan to chat about his route in to the SUP world, and he let us in on one of the most famous play spots in Europe for white water kayaking - in London!
Q. so DAN, who are you and what do you do?
I’m the Dan Hyman, Operations Manager and a Lead SUP & Kayak Coach at Active 360.
Q. how did you start your journey to becoming a paddleboard instructor?
I started kayaking at around age 10. Since then I’ve always gravitated towards water with my main disciplines being whitewater (play boating) and surfing. I became a Lead Kayak and Canoe coach at age 18 (over 15 years ago), since then I have worked at a number or centres and clubs along the Thames. When I found out about Stand Up Paddleboarding I was intrigued and Active 360 was one of the first companies in London to offer this.
Q. what people can expect when they paddleboard with you?
We have a passion for Londons waterways as it’s the place where all of us fell in love with watersports in the first place. We know what it has to offer but also how much it needs protecting.
Q: Can you share your favorite sup spots? Maybe one local and one a little further away?
Kew Bridge - where it all started. A historic stretch of the River Thames where you can experience the city and also a much quieter and serene part of the river.
Hurley Weir - One of the most famous play spots in Europe for whitewater Kayaking. A beautiful stretch of the upper Thames.
